New For OldsMarch Performance recently introduced its latest in a long line of serpentine belt conversion kits, this one for Oldsmobile 455ci big-block engines. Designed to replace standard V-belt pulleys and brackets, the March system includes CNC-machined billet aluminum brackets and pulleys, all of which are clear powdercoated for a "no-polish" finish. Kits also include stainless steel adjustment rods and standard-ratio pulleys to preserve proper cooling and charging characteristics. The kit is shown here with March's Futura air cleaner. A Better BoxClassic Performance Products is using its experience and manufacturing technology to build a new 600 Series steering box. Designed around a modern Saginaw box and using all-new components, CPP's power recirculating-ball gear features low friction and quick response (steering ratio is 14:1). An open-centered, rotary-type valve provides smooth and quiet operation while retaining excellent road feel. The integral rack piston converts hydraulic pressure to a rotation force that moves the steering linkage left or right. The steering system and hydraulic fluid also act as cushions to help absorb road shocks. Boxes are available for '55-57 and '58-64 Chevy cars, with other applications to follow. For more information, contact Classic Performance Products, 175 E. Freedom Ave., Dept. CRM, Anaheim, CA 92801; (714) 522-2000; www.classicperform.com.
Quarter TherapyThe sheetmetal experts at Engineering & Manufacturing Services (EMS) continue to expand their line of Chevrolet parts. Some of the latest offerings are these '49-52 Chevy lower front quarter-panels for coupes, sedans, and convertibles. The 18-gauge, well-detailed panels replicate a commonly rusted and damaged area on these Chevys, and have all the proper curves and creases for a proper fit. The part includes the lower doorjamb and a third of the wheel opening, and rolls under far enough to reach the original spot weld flange. For more information on this and other Chevy panels, contact EMS, Box 24362, Dept. CRM, Cleveland, OH 44124; (216) 541-4585; www.emsautomotive.com.
Oh, Deer!Ever think about how much damage a deer or other large furry creature could do to your custom car if struck at 60 mph? Perhaps you should consider protection like that offered from the SAV-A-LIFE Deer-Alert. The Deer-Alert consists of two inch-long cylindrical devices that are mounted (permanently or temporarily) on your car's front bumper. As the vehicle reaches speeds above 30 mph, air rushing through the cylinder emits an ultrasonic signal undetectable by humans, but strong enough to deter deer and other animals up to a quarter-mile away. Deer-Alert units are used by hundreds of government and wildlife agencies, and are available in chrome, black, or gold. Deer-Alert is available at retail stores nationwide, or by contacting SAV-A-LIFE at (800) 654-3337; www.deeralert.com.
